Design Trends: Effortless Shapes

Revisiting a timeless classic: The Bowling Bag.

With another whirlwind fashion week season behind me, where everyone is obsessed with what's new and trending, I feel more and more that whilst yes, trends change with the seasons, classic styles never truly go out of fashion.

This season, I’ve revisited an Italian classic handbag style popular in the 1920s, but redesigned it for the modern woman: the Bowling Bag. True to our brand philosophy, the Bowling Bag is the definition of effortless style, with it’s stylish and minimal aesthetic, contrast colour lining and our signature lightweight leather.

When I design a new style I’m not always looking to reinvent the wheel. It’s all about creating something that is beautiful and practical for our busy lifestyles. This bag was inspired by the women of the Roaring Twenties, when following WW1, women's roles in society started changing. In many countries women were finally given the right to vote. They abandoned traditional, restrictive women's clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. Their long hair, was cut into a 'Bob', a short hairstyle that symbolised the independent and modern woman of the 1920's.

It seems like a good time to revisit this era, when today, the galvanising actions of the women on TIME magazine's Person of the Year 2017 issue, along with those of hundreds of others, and of many men as well, have unleashed one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s. I can't tell you how happy this makes me.

Designed as an everyday urban tote, this medium sized bag joins my existing collection of Amalfi and Loren totes with it’s elegant style, smooth leather detailing and spacious interior. Specially designed to achieve optimum functionality, the Bowling Bag epitomises excellence in detailing and the finest Italian craftsmanship that I'm so proud of.

Handcrafted in our workshop in Rome, the Bowling Bag has a removable leather pouch so you can keep your valuables safe, and a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap, if you want to wear it over your shoulder.

Wear it with a tailored coat like this navy one from Massimo Dutti, a pair of blue jeans, a crisp shirt and your favourite flats, and you're ready for Sunday brunch with your girlfriends. Or pair it with a chic MaxMara coat, cigarette trousers, a cashmere jumper and a statement necklace and you're boardroom ready!

From cherry red or chic taupe to an iconic statement black, the Bowling Bag is our chicest bag to date!
